Petition Regarding the Conduct and Professional Standards of Ms. Miller

We, the undersigned students, respectfully submit this petition to express our concerns regarding the classroom environment and professional conduct of Ms. Miller. Our concerns are not based on a single disagreement or isolated incident; rather, they reflect repeated experiences that have caused students to feel uncomfortable, discouraged, and disrespected in her classroom.

A productive classroom should be an environment in which students feel respected, supported, and comfortable participating in their education. However, students have experienced interactions with Ms. Miller that they perceive as unnecessarily rude, dismissive, or disrespectful. Additionally, students are given extremely limited opportunities to communicate with one another, creating an atmosphere that many feel is excessively restrictive and discourages positive classroom interaction.

We are also concerned about the apparent inconsistency between the standards imposed upon students and those demonstrated by faculty members. Students are prohibited from having unnatural hair colors, yet Ms. Miller currently has purple hair. If the school’s appearance policy applies to faculty members as well, we believe those entrusted with representing and enforcing school expectations should be held to those standards. When students are expected to follow rules that appear not to be consistently upheld by members of the faculty, it can undermine students’ respect for those policies and create a perception of unfairness.

Teachers hold an important position of authority and serve as representatives of the values and expectations of the school. For that reason, we believe professionalism, respectful communication, fairness, and consistency are essential. Based on the concerns described above, we respectfully request that the administration formally review Ms. Miller’s classroom conduct, consider the experiences of the students in her classes, determine whether applicable school policies are being consistently followed, and take whatever action the administration considers appropriate.

Our intention in submitting this petition is not to personally attack Ms. Miller, but to ensure that students’ concerns are heard and that every classroom provides a respectful, fair, and productive learning environment.
