We have a problem with Canada's FPTP (first-past-the-post) voting system: it produces false majorities, exaggerates regional divisions and leaves huge numbers of voters without a voice in Parliament. In short, the FPTP system--which only works well in a system with two political parties--is inherently deficient enough to imperil democracy itself.

It is time for change. Canada needs a fair voting system in which every vote counts.

We support replacing FPTP with a fair voting system based on a simple principle: the number of seats held by a party in the House of Commons closely matches their actual level of support throughout the country. However, we would also support the convening of a Citizen's Assembly on the subject.

We ask MP Julie Dabrusin (Danforth-Toronto riding) to be our voice in Canadian Parliament to champion the cause of fair-minded electoral reform.
