On November 27th 2015, Haiden Suarez Noa, charged with 2nd degree murder was found guilty of manslaughter after stabbing his common law spouse, Tania Cowell, 11 times and leaving her in the apartment to die.  Mr. Haiden Suarez Noa pleaded not guilty to 2nd degree murder and used the Law of Provocation to aid in his defense.  We the petitioners call on Parliament to abolish the Law of Provocation to be used as a defense in domestic homicide situations.  This law promotes a "blame the victim" mentality and allows the accused to literally "get away" with murder.  The victim is no longer alive to provide his/her version of the events and the accused is often able to claim any story of provocation.  New Zealand no longer accepts this law as  a defense as the government considered the law flawed.  We the petitioners are asking the House of Commons In Parliament Assembled to follow in New Zealand's "footsteps" and abolish the Law of Provocation.
