Ukraine is the largest country in Europe and has been an independent state since 1991.
The Ukrainian Government has an Embassy in Australia. yet Australia does not have an Embassy in Ukraine.
Land has been set aside by the Ukraine Government for an Australian Embassy.
Australia is currently represented in Ukraine by the Embassy in Poland and Ukrainians are required to go through the Australian Embassy in Moscow for consular and immigration services.
Australians unlike other Western nations still require a visa to visit Ukraine for short stay visits.
Australia and Ukraine are both members of the World Trade Organisation and have free trade agreement.
There is much that can and should be done to develop trade, cultural and political ties between Australia and Ukraine. This can best be done if Australia has an Embassy and diplomatic mission located in Ukraine and not split between other diplomatic mission
The establishment of an Embassy in Ukraine is long overdue.
