"If you have enough you build a longer table, not a wall"
The Falls Creek Primary School would not exist if not for the fundraising and physical efforts of a small group of locals in the 60's. Current Education Department Policy denies enrollment to the grandchildren of the builders of our local school. Each winter scores of children are denied access to an education during winter. Countless more don't even bother applying because they have been told they have no chance of acceptance. If you feel it is unacceptable for a public school to deny access to education then please show your support for our cause by signing and circulating our petition.
Funding is apportioned to the Falls Creek Primary school based on enrollment numbers at term one. This means that funding is not provided for winter students. According to the ARCC $1.5B is contributed to the economy from the snowfields. 85% of this economic activity is from winter season and the same report states that the winter season is responsible for 90% of regional employment. Less than half of the available places in term 3 are made available for winter students.
Education Department Policy states that every child is entitled to a place at their local school unless the Regional Director decides that an enrollment cap should be in place.
Regional Director Judy Rose we request that you urgently apportion funding based on winter demand and lift the enrollment cap at the Falls Creek Primary School so that children whose families must work in the region are not denied an education. Please provide necessary funding for required building modifications.
