Judge Patrick J. McKay of Anchorage Should Not Be Allowed to Avoid Retention Vote

This year Anchorage Superior Court judge Patrick McKay was due to stand for a retention vote. He is using his "retirement" to skirt this vote. This loophole needs to be fixed.
Please sign this petition to demand that if Judge Patrick J. McKay of the Superior Court of Anchorage, Alaska does not appear on the retention ballot on 11/8/16, that he be precluded from any further judicial appointments in the future.
This vote is required by law and subjects sitting judges to public scrutiny of their fairness and fitness to act in a judicial capacity. Prior to this vote, the Alaska judicial council holds public hearings and distributes reports about that judges behavior and rulings so that our community can make an informed decision. However, a judge intending to retire apparently need not stand for his vote, nor face public scrutiny.
As such, Judge Patrick McKay is not appearing on this years ballot because he intends to "retire". This is a problem. Judge McKay has made multiple statements on record that he intends to sit "pro tem" after his retirement. Apparently retired judges are permitted to return and rule on their cases for years after their retirement.
Judge Patrick McKay should not be permitted to sit pro tem on any case unless he faces this vote. I do not believe the public would vote to retain this judge. Judge McKay has even told a party to one of his cases that his future pro tem appoint was "unlucky for her".
As a community we must ensure that our voice cannot be taken from us. I want the public to know what this judge has done. I would have been at those public hearings to share my comments. I would have campaigned to make sure this judge cannot ruin any more families. I am supported. I was recently at a hearing where a group of people that I did not know, showed up to tell me they are going through this same thing with this judge.
Again, please sign this petition to demand that if Judge Patrick J. McKay of the Superior Court of Anchorage, Alaska does not appear on the retention ballot on 11/8/16, that he be precluded from any further judicial appointments in the future.
