Justice For Zak
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
My 20 year old nephew Zak was convicted of murder under Joint Enterprise in March 2018. He is still awaiting sentencing. Trial Judge John Lodge wants to hear what another defendant has to say at his Newton Hearing before sentencing Zak. This Defendant already pleaded guilty to the murder in December 2017.
Although Zak was with the attacker on that day, he had no idea that harm was going to be caused to the victim. Zak did not know the attacker very well, and did not know the victim. Zak was at the address for a totally different reason. He was not part of a Joint Enterprise attack, there was no plan as far as he was concerned.
We believe that Zak did not have a fair trial. He has severe ADHD part of this means he has a limited understanding of expressive language. This was reported by an independent psychologist, yet there was no assistance or support of an intermediate in Court.
Zak is not violent and has no criminal record. He is not capable of planning a vicious attack of this nature. The whole situation has caused considerable anguish to my sister and the whole extended family. Zak is facing a life sentence in prison for a crime he did not commit. He is as innocent as the other two defendants who were acquitted. Justice has failed him in this trial and we are asking Judge John Lodge to use whatever powers he has to reverse this decision or in the very least, order a retrial.
Zak and his family are now supported by JENGbA (Joint Enterprise Not Guilty by Association) who were instrumental in the Supreme Court acknowledgment that the law had taken a wrong turn as far back as 1984.
