Drop the charges against Bettina Cuce' Rodriguez for rescuing a severely neglected dog from the freezing cold, starving, and would certainly have died had Bettina not saved him.

BETTINA FACES TEN YEARS IN JAIL FOR RESCUING A STARVING DOG FROM BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES.  A gross miscarriage of justice in Accomack, Virginia. ASK THE GOVERNOR AND THE JUDGE TO DROP THE CHARGES.

Bettina Cuce' Rodriguez (center above with her sisters, all devoted animal lovers and rescuers) rescued a dog that was living on a chain, tied to a tree, in below freezing temperatures, emaciated, dehydrated and starving for both food and love. Bettina and others tried to work through the authorities but nothing was being done to save this dog - he was going to die. His only food and water came from concerned citizens who couldn't just drive by. Attempts were also made to purchase the dog from the occupant of the home where the dog was chained - that occupant stated he could not sell the dog because it wasn't his, it was his cousins who had left for North Carolina. The dog had no owner, no one to save him. Bettina did. She took that dog off that chain, out of the cold, brought him home, paid for all his medical needs and today, that same dog is happy, healthy and much loved.

Accomack Virginia, instead of praising Bettina and thanking her for not only saving this abandoned dog, but also for bringing food and supplies several times to their local animal control, have CHARGED HER WITH A FELONY LARCENY and she faces a sentence of TEN YEARS IN JAIL!!

To add to the bizarness of this case - just prior to this incident, PETA admitted to stealing a healthy family pet, a Chihuahua named Maya, within the very same County - off a citizens front porch and KILLED it. Accommack gave PETA a $500 fine yet Bettina faces ten years in jail, has to go through a trial, legal fees, etc., because she saved a dog.

To twist it even a little bit more - the 'occupant' stated to some officials that he indeed was the owner of the dog (even tho he had told several others the dog belonged to his cousin). Yet at court, he disappeared without a trace. He had been served a subpeona to testify but fled before he could be called. Obviously he has no interest in this case, or this dog, and surely does not feel like a "victim". No one, not the occupant or the cousin, have been charged with any form of neglect or cruelty!! How is this possible?

Please not only sign this petition but take a minute to EMAIL THE COURT, THE COUNTY ATTORNEY (who dropped the charges on PETA but pressed charges on Bettina!!)  AND THE GOVERNOR, CALL THEIR OFFICE - demand the charges be dropped. If this is not resolved, Accomack will forever be known as the county who does not care about animals and the county with one of the worst cases of injustice regarding animal rescue in the world. More animals will die in Accomack. Rescuers will not help. Don't let that happen! Call, write, email, share, today. Bettina and the animals in Accomack need us.
