Decision Maker Response
Satyendar Jain’s response
Feb 28, 2019 — Dear Citizens,
I have taken note of a petition on Change.org by a citizen Kavitha on sex selective abortions that asks for publicising the details of Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prevention and regulation of Misuse) PNDT cells to fight female foeticide in Delhi.
In Delhi, we are closely monitoring the implementation of the PCPNDT Act. We have already set up dedicated PNDT Cells. The details of these PNDT cells and the contact details of the district level officers are displayed prominently at the Radiology departments of all private and government hospitals in Delhi. If hospitals do no display this information, complaints may be registered with the Nodal officers appointed in every hospital.
Earlier this month, the Delhi cabinet approved an incentive scheme for informers and pregnant women who act as decoys and help in cracking down on centres conducting illegal sex determination test. As per this scheme, we have announced an award of 1.5 lakh rupees for a pregnant woman who agrees to go as a decoy and 50,000 rupees for the informer.
To further strengthen and effectively implement our resolve, based on this change.org petition, I will direct IT Cell of Delhi government to keep the Health Ministry’s website updated with the latest PNDT cell contact information and the progress we have made in curbing sex determination.
In the run-up to March 8, International Women’s Day 2019, my Ministry will run an advertisement campaign on print and audio-visual mediums to publicise and advocate against female foeticide.
We are committed to end the evil of sex determination and female foeticide.
Minister of Health
Government of Delhi
