@Chase Credit Cards: Stop taking away rewards without properly notifying cardholders.

Problem Statement:
Chase's credit card policy does not adequately notify cardholders of upcoming account cancellations and results in customers unwittingly forfeiting their Chase reward points, worth potentially hundreds of dollars.

In my case, I did not receive the single piece of communication (i.e., paper mail) that Chase claimed to have sent to notify me of my account closure.  As a result, my account was closed without my knowledge, and the reward points on the account were forfeited.  Through my follow-up on the matter, Chase service representatives have not acknowledged the inadequacy of its current single-letter notification policy for account cancellations and have refused to reinstate my reward points.

Online, I was disheartened to find similar stories of Chase customers unknowingly forfeiting their reward points.  Change is needed to address Chase's insufficient notification for account closures and draconian rewards forfeiture policy.

 


Proposed Solution:

1) Chase should improve communication of account cancellations by increasing the number of notifications (currently 1) and utilizing alternative communication methods (e.g., email, text message, phone call) to supplement paper mail.

2) Chase should restore forfeited reward points of past cardholders, whose accounts were auto-closed by Chase, since they were not adequately notified of their account cancellations.
