Why this petition matters

Started by Calgary Beltline

Calgarians calling for an end to the "freedom" protests in our Beltline Communities… Take it elsewhere!

"Your freedoms stop at the point where they infringe on another’s freedom."

The residents and businesses that reside within Calgary’s Beltline have a growing frustration with the weekly self-proclaimed “freedom” protests that create blocked roads, excessive noise, the obnoxious blaring of horns, unnecessary harassment, and disturbances to the Beltline community. These protests are non-violent, but in no way are they peaceful, they are overly disruptive to the residents and businesses that reside and pay taxes in Calgary’s Beltline communities.

We have had enough. This needs to stop.

Canadians have the right to protest, but these protests have no right to disrupt our residents and businesses on a weekly basis. We have a right to peace and prosperity in the community we work and live in... Take it elsewhere!

We want Mayor Joyti Gondek, elected City of Calgary councillors, and the Calgary Police Service to be aware of our growing frustrations over these disruptive protests in our communities. We have a right to peace in our homes and no unnecessary disruptions to our businesses; we want these protests moved out of our community.

“Freedom does not mean that one can just do whatever they want. We have a moral obligation and a responsibility to consider the impact of our actions on other people.”
