The petition is to the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Western Australia via Josh Wilson Member for Fremantle.
We the under request that a pedestrian crossing be created between Cockburn Rd/Hampton Rd intersection and nearest Rollinson Roads, to create a safe and secure pedestrian crossing access to both sides of the roads.
• Traffic in the South Fremantle area has increased substantially on Cockburn Road because of the developments in Coogee area and beyond.
• Commercial traffic both light and heavy vehicles are now combined with residential traffic creating a steady stream of uninterrupted vehicles in both directions on Cockburn Road.
• The council has developed a footpath to access the bus stop on the North side of Cockburn Road in recognition of public transport use as well as access to the shopping precinct.
• The development of any area needs to take into account pedestrian traffic not just vehicles and both of these stops are used by those without access to personal transport, that is the elderly, children, parents with prams and anybody with a disability.
We need to create safe and secure access to both sides of the roads, as there have been accidents and too many close calls.
