Dara Bremer Gulley started this petition to Josh Middleton

This petition is in direct response to the petition created that asks the Superintendent to NOT fire the Middleton Elementary School employees for dressing as a border wall that states, "Make America Great Again", and dressing as "Mexicans".  In this petition, we are asking that the Superintendent continue to hold these teachers accountable so that these teachers and other teachers in this community understand these actions are not appropriate now or in the future.  This isn't about political correctness, and regardless of whether these teachers were dressed up at an after school team building event, this shows not just poor judgement but a stereotypical depiction of those of Mexican descent.  Stereotypes often dehumanize a group of people.

Per the Idaho Statesman article https://www.idahostatesman.com/latest-news/article221074560.html 12.9% of the Middle Elementary School is comprised of a Latino student body.  What message is being sent to the Latino population in this school and community?  Furthermore, how are the stereotypes these teachers hold impacting how they treat these Latino students on a day to day basis?  These teachers are influencing young minds, and if they are not held accountable, what message is being sent to all students in this community?  Is this the example we would like our youth to follow?

This petition isn't to say one cannot believe what they want politically, but bringing one's political views and stereotypes of a whole group of people is not appropriate in public education.  Latinos pay taxes in this community to have a safe and welcoming environment for their children to learn.  We ask the Superintendent to continue pursuing discipline of the educators involved.
