As soon as the weather gets warmer and daylight gets longer, the doorbell starts ringing by solicitors anytime of day but usually around dinner time. Not only is this a nuisance that disturbs our day, it also places our home security at risk. I refuse to open the door to a stranger. So if I ignore the doorbell, the person keeps coming back until I open the door to tell them I’m not interested. If I open the door, I risk my safety and the safety of my household members. Our right to privacy and safety should superceid the right of businesses, charities, and religious organizations’ right to solicit. Let’s get a by-law passed in the city of Toronto to make All door-to-door solicitation to be illegal.
