Stop the Route 80 Pyramid and Jurassic Park-like Fence in NW New Jersey
0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!
We, the residents of Knowlton, Hardwick and the surrounding area are petitioning our Representatives to stop the NJDOT plans to erect a very large (60 ft) pyramid along with a “Jurassic Park-like” fence located along Route 80 in the Delaware Water Gap. This area is one of the Natural Wonders in the United States.
Our objections are as follows: NJDOT reasoning for this project is “safety” yet their own study justifying the project states, “NJDOT provided limited rockfall event data, and the actual frequency of rock activity is unknown.” The incidents stated have been contradicted by those familiar with the area. This area of Route 80 is essential for emergency personnel to transport patients to the nearest hospital located in East Stroudsburg, PA. Alternate plans must be in place to not jeopardize the treatment by EMS. In addition, there are 70-80 accidents per year requiring emergency personnel to be dispatched to the “S” curve area which is the area directly along the proposed “pyramid” and fence. If safety is truly the issue, straighten and move the road or offer alternatives. We request the NJDOT to improve this area but in an acceptable and appropriate manner We are petitioning our Representatives to force the NJDOT to address alternative means to make this area both safer and yet keep the beauty of nature from being defaced.
