Throughout my life, I have been forced to actively read every book I have read for school. Many students I know have shared the same issue. No one has ever paid too much attention to this pressing issue. Are we students just going to ignore the problem, brush it off like this is ok? Well, it is not! And that is why we need to take action. For me, active reading has done wonders to make my mental health significantly worse. I used to be a happy person, and that was whenever I don't have a book that I need to actively read for school. As soon as I need to actively read a book, I go into a deep depressive state. Statistics show that 93% of people hospitalized in the U.S. right now have actively read at some point in their life. Coincidence? I think not. If we didn't actively read, schools would be able to re-use books so that the school wouldn't have to waste money on buying new books for every student each year, but could instead re-use books, which would save a lot of money (-Ariel). This is a serious problem and we need to take action. Sign this petition to stop required active reading finally!
