Why this petition matters

Started by Megan DePerro

Dear President Joseph R. Biden, the United States Congress and the United States House of Representatives:

Our grandma, and America’s sweetheart, Betty White, passed away too young at the age of 99. As everybody already knows, Betty White was a comedian, an actress, a WWII voluntary servicewoman, an animal rights activist, a civil rights activist, and most importantly, a legend.

We hereby ask that January 17th become National Betty White Day. A day where basic TV channels will play Hot in Cleveland and The Golden Girls. A day people can choose to dress up as Rose Nyland. A day people are encouraged to financially support women and marginalized people in the entertainment industry, as our beloved Betty did, and to financially support animal shelters and organizations. Finally, Betty White Day cheesecake would be on sale with sellers encouraged to give a portion to local animal shelters in honor of America’s grandma.

As Betty White would say,

thank you for being a friend.
