Why this petition matters

Started by Leah Van

As you are aware the Eviction Moratorium expires at 12pm on July 31st 2021. Many people are still unable to pay their bills as a result of the COVID -19 pandemic.

The expiration of the eviction ban will result in a catastrophic number of homeless families and individuals. Not to mention, further the spread of the Delta variant as many people will have no other choice but to seek out already overcrowded homeless shelters.

There are some programs already in place to help those that still need help, but what happens after they are formally evicted? Having to pay additional court costs and interest will only put people further into debt. Not only will this affect families, but it will also increase the amount of crime we see. As desperate people, do desperate things.

More funding needs to be provided to help the now homeless population secure housing. These funds will go towards paying back rent, court costs, security deposit to secure a place to live, etc.

With schools starting soon many children will be without secure housing and this will ultimately affect their school performance and mental health.

We need to take action NOW to help those that have been displaced due to the expiration of the eviction moratorium. To decrease the number of homeless families, prevent the further spread of the Delta variant and establish stable housing for the upcoming school year. More funding needs to be provided to programs that can help avoid a disaster.

Not taking action will increase the homeless population, leave children starting the school year with no stable housing, increase crime rates and further spread the Delta Variant.

We could all use some help at some point in our lives. Please help us spread the word, about the desperate need for additional funding for those affected by the expiration of the eviction ban.

By signing this petition you are showing that you support your fellow Americans in their fight for economic justice.

United we stand. Divided we fall.
