Full Freedom For Gaspar Avendaño Hernandez & Erick Diaz Cruz
2 YEARS AFTER NEARLY FATAL ICE-NYPD SHOOTING, BROOKLYN FAMILY STILL SEEKS JUSTICE
New York, NY --- On February 20th, 2020 Eric Diaz Cruz was sleeping in his mothers home after having arrived to New York on a valid tourist Visa. Shortly after 7AM, plain clothes ICE officers sought to question Erick's family member, Gaspar Avendaño Hernández without identifying themselves or presenting a warrant. Amid the confusion, ICE officer, Henry Santana, shot Cruz at point blank range hitting him in the face leaving Cruz blind in one eye. ICE agents also tased Gaspar Avendaño Hernández more than 20 times, damaging his heart, and requiring emergency medical attention. NYPD and ICE agents then worked together to kidnap Avendaño Hernández from a local Brooklyn hospital.
The family is demanding that all ICE and NYPD officers involved in the shooting and assault be immediately held accountable and fired, starting with Henry Santana. They’ll also be calling for the removal of the tracking bracelet ICE placed on Avendaño Hernández after the incident. Lastly, the coalition will call on Democrats in New York and Washington to abolish the racist laws that enable ICE and NYPD agents to terrorize families across the City.
NEW YORKERS DEMAND FULL FREEDOM FOR GASPAR AVENDAÑO HERNANDEZ AND ERICK DIAZ CRUZ AS BIDEN WHITE HOUSE FAILS IMMIGRANT TERRORIZED BY RACIST FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAWS.
