Right now, the US goal for carbon neutrality is 2050, akin to most countries around the world. Though that sounds promising, our world is already starting to experience the beginning of the drastic affects we know are coming from Global Warming. If our world leaders and major global business owners truly cared about everyone on the planet, they would take a more aggressive approach at cutting greenhouse gas emissions now.

It is well known that it is possible to have not just the United States, but our entire planet off of fossil fuels 10 years earlier and possibly more if world leaders and major global business owners actually committed to funding, researching, and implementing renewable energy sources now. It is difficult for people to reduce their own carbon footprint as well when there isn't much resources for them to do so easily and when it is much more expensive too. As a freshman in college, it leaves me questioning the future of mine and younger generations on this planet. It's depressing to think so many children are growing up in a world that is moving toward a sort of dystopic future, and the people with the power to do something are holding off because of financial security.

If the United States committed to carbon neutrality by 2040, other countries are most definitely going to follow their lead. Not every place on Earth is experiencing bad effects yet, but other places are getting close to being uninhabitable. It will take serious effort from many governments, departments, organizations, businesses, and people. If we keep stalling and putting off the transfer to renewables even longer than we have already, hundreds of millions of lives will be at risk due to natural disasters and more.

The people who truly run this world need to take the livelihood of our species and planet as a whole into account when thinking about cutting fossil fuels as our core source of energy and so much more than just that. The Industrial Revolution has been pushed way too far, and it's time we put an end to it and moved toward a sustainable future. Climate Change should be recognized by everyone as an existential risk and be capitalized on as much as possible. Please sign this petition if you believe the United States and everyone else needs to take more aggressive action on fossil fuels and carbon neutrality!
