Actions to Protect Asian Americans from Hate Crime & Bias Attacks!

Actions to Protect Asian Americans from Hate Crime & Bias Attacks!

We ask our national, state and local leaders to take immediate actions to protect Asian Americans from hate crime and bias attacks.
We ask our leaders to take IMMEDIATE action on:
1. Better tracking of hate crimes statistics and treat hate crime as one of the top priorities.
2. Provide more resources & training to Hate Crime Unit officers and more languages support to the victims.
3. We ask the DOE to create a new curriculum to combat anti-Asian attacks and provide more resources to teachers to engage with students on discussions about those crimes, and to raise awareness & more understanding of the painful nature of the hate crime.
4. State and City leaders need to initiate media campaigns against Anti-Asian hate crime and bias attacks. Subways, buses, hospitals, schools, state and municipal buildings should have messages that promote unity and solidarity.
5. Due to our cultural stigma, language barriers and other factors, not all hate crimes are reported. We urge to allow anonymous reporting, allowing CBOs or social services organizations to report the crime on the victim's behalf.
6. We want Crime Prevention Officers to work closely with our community on strategies to protect the community. We want them to work hand-to-hand with businesses and residents on how to prevent crime and preserve the evidence.
7. We want Attorney General and District Attorney’s offices to provide more resources to Asian American community and funding to Asian American non-profit organizations on crime prevention and education.
8. Create a NYC Diversity Project that would provide opportunities for New Yorkers to know each other’s culture, neighborhood. Community leaders and students would be invited to learn and experience another culture and neighborhood characteristics.
