Abolish the 2 party system in the United States
The 2 party system limits the free thinking potential this country was founded for. No one can truly express themselves through 2 parties that disagree in almost every way. Very few people are 100% republican or democrat. There needs to be options for those who are in the middle or not represented at all. Over the last 20 or so years, possibly more, the 2 dominant parties have slowly narrowed down the views they support. This has lead to a sharp rise in political polarization since the 2008 election and an increase in peaceful and sometimes violent outbursts by both parties for being ignored. The BLM protests and capital protests of January are prime examples of how not being represented can lead to outbursts from the people. The Republican Party and the Democratic Party don’t need to end, but their control and dominance of the elections does. Their ideas and the 2 party system as a whole, are outdated. When the 2 party system started to gain traction over 200 years ago, there was no LGBTQ+ organization and members of it were outcasted by society. There were no abortions. There was no social media or computers even. That system is still in place. At the rate technology, medical practices, and movements in society, it’s amazing a 2 party system has lasted this long. If this country is to survive, a 200 year old system isn’t going to cut it.
