Kaitlyn Cook started this petition to Representative Joseph Morelle

As Americans get older, whether they have disabilities or not it can be challenging to remain safe and independent in their home without the proper tools and home modifications. Usually Americans would rather stay in their home for as long as possible with their spouse or partner and not have to go to a nursing home. The H.R.1583 - Senior and Disability Home Modification Assistance Initiative Act was created by Joe Morelle and this bill allows older Americans to stay in their house longer with home modifications equipment designed for your home. Home modifications can include installing ramps and rails, adding more light to stairwells and hallways, alter bathrooms to accommodate a safer environment with grab bars and walk in shower are a few examples. Home modification programs is a great opportunity to allow individuals to get educated on home modification equipment and ways to adapt their home to remain independent and safe.

I am an occupational therapy student and believe this is a great opportunity for occupational therapist to run these programs since we have the knowledge, skills and resources to educate this population. We can inform older Americans on fall prevention within the home to ensure a successful and independent life. Please consider signing this petition in support of the H.R 1583 - Senior and Disability Home Modification Assistance Initiative Act in helping this bill move forward in becoming a federal law!
