This hits home as something similar happened to my son causing numerous facial bones and blindness. DA told us the perpetrator will likely get a misdemeanor because of this law. Makes me cry!

I am in the same situation. Let the law not focus on the intent defendant, but focus on the result of what happen to the victim. Because at the end of the day it is the end result that affects families and sociality.

That one punch changed the Torres family's entire world/existence forever. Hear me? FOREVER. 15 months is a pat on the wrist as the guilty party walks away laughing at the system. The punishment absolutely does not match the crime.

I'm signing because "the punishment needs to fit the crime." Julio Torres, and those who loved him, suffered daily for those eight months following his attack. In a civilized society, we all need to be accountable for our actions. The assailant should be punished criminally and civily. The end result, whether intentional or not, was death...wrongful death. A son is left without his father; a mother/father without her/his son; a woman without her partner; a world without Julio Torres. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May you rest in peace, Julio. Amen.
