#FreeSephora. Immediately release Sephora Astrid Biduaya Political Prisoner in Goma, DRC

0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!

Sephora Astride Biduaya is a young political activist from Goma, DRC. She is a youth leader for UDPS one of the opposition parties. On December 19th, she and 11 other political activists from various opposition parties arrested. They were organizing a peaceful protest to make the end of President Kabila constitutionally mandated term and to draw attention to the fact that no new elections had been scheduled.

She was beaten and arrested and has been in prison in Goma since. She is the only female in the group and has been kept in a separate prison from the group. Sephora is 28.  While in prison she has a miscarriage and really needs medical attention which she as been denied. She has also not had legal support before this week.

Politics in the DRC are complicated. The system - including the courts are corrupt.

Our immediate priority is getting Sephora proper medical care but the charges are 100% political and trumped up and should be dropped. We want her released immediately. The others should be freed as well. We need to build popular support for her in and out of the DRC to help make this happen and to bring attention to her case.

Personal note: from @AmyPritchard: Sephora is a participant in a training program I work on with the @McCainInstitute in Goma. Will update this case as we get more information.
