Force U.K. government to teach mindfulness to students

More than 6,000 suicides took place in the U.K. and Ireland in 2016. 13% of teens self harm between the ages of 11-16. 1 in 5 people show symptoms of anxiety or depression over the age of 16 in the U.K. 

All of this can, in my opinion can be STOPPED, if the U.K. taught the younger generation mindfulness from an early age.

If every 8 year old in the world is taught meditation, we will eliminate violence from the world within one generation ~ Dalai Lama

I am proposing to the Department of Education that every student in the U.K. should practice mindfulness from an early age. 

Mindfulness, a form of meditation has many benefits that would help change the way U.K. schools function. Below are a few (of the many) valuable benefits that mindfulness is proven to bring.

  1. Reduces stress
  2. Improves concentration 
  3. Increases happiness and acceptance 
  4. Better memory recal and cognitive skills
  5. Enhanced self-esteem

What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is a very simple form of meditation. A typical meditation consists of focusing your full attention on your breath as it flows in and out of your body. Focusing on each breath in this way allows you to observe your thoughts as they arise in your mind and, little by little, to let go of struggling with them.

How will my signature help? Your signature is invaluable to helping this petition succeed. Once we reach 10,000 signatures the U.K. government are required to reply to our request and once we reach 100,000 signatures the U.K. government are required to bring up the subject in parliament.

Although we still have a chance of making changes without these large numbers of signatures we need your support! If you do decide to sign this petition I would be extremely grateful as I feel very passionate about this!
