Jeannine Casselman started this petition to Bristol-Warren Joint Finance Committee

Bristol-Warren is a fantastic community with incredible students, engaged parents, caring teachers and administrators, but we are facing a crisis.  For over a decade, Bristol Warren schools have been underfunded.  The Joint Finance Committee has repeatedly failed to fully fund the budget, resulting in teacher cuts, loss of academic and athletic opportunities, and unfulfilled promises to address large class rooms and student behavioral health needs.  Every year the budget is not fully funded, we fall further behind.

We deserve a school budget that allows students to thrive - that provides opportunities for innovative instruction and the tools to be competitive in the 21st century. We need a school budget that allows us to attract and keep top-notch teachers.  We need a budget that recognizes that education must be inclusive and accessible to children of all needs and abilities.

Public education is the cornerstone of a civil, well-functioning society. We put the future of our community (local and global) at great risk when we cut corners on education.  This is not just an issue for parents, but for the whole community.

This year the Joint Finance Committee can act to meet the needs of children by fully funding the budget as requested by the Superintendent and School Committee. For FY21, the budget request calls for ~$57 million (a ~$1.5 million increase from FY20). Anything less hurts not only our kids, but our community as well.

As concerned community members, we ask that the JFC make the right decision to fully fund our schools!
