Why this petition matters

Please join us in our mission to ban all Commercial Solar Energy Systems (CSES) within the 2 mile jurisdiction of Columbus, on prime farmland and near Bartholomew County homes.
Large Solar Facility Developers have moved into Your Bartholomew County in a big way. Four rural neighborhoods, totaling approximately 6-7000 acres have been targeted for Large Scale Solar Development.
What's at risk?
Value of homes. Field tiles. Scenic views. Sounds of nature. Proper water flow. Land use for future crop farming. Sandhill Crane migration routes. Wildlife habitat including pollinator areas such as bees and butterflies. Bald Eagles - finicky about where they nest. Fields of oxygen-producing plants - more oxygen produced in summer months than Amazon rain forest! The livelihood of local farmers money raising crops. Local agri-business suppliers. Neighboring properties: tornadoes, straight-line wind, and hail can damage panels.
Points to Consider:
What will be the impact to our local economy and school systems if families choose to live in areas away from ugly and potentially harmful commercial installations?
What are we going to gain as a community for what we WILL LOSE as a community?
Your tax dollars are being handed out in the form of massive subsidies so these Big Solar companies can buy off any landowner who takes the money.
We absolutely support affordable, clean, smart renewable energy to benefit our county, state, and country. But it needs to be thoughtfully planned and responsibly built. There are many open areas that receive more sun and wind, but billion-dollar companies are looking for the cheapest, quickest way to meet their renewable energy goals.
Please consider signing this petition. Let your commissioners know your concerns. Attend a public forum. Write a letter to the editor. Contact your local county and Indiana state elected officials as well as your US Congressperson and Senator. Educate your neighboring landowners about the long-term costs and risks. Be BOLD, Be GRACIOUS, and Stay INFORMED!
