Do you, a friend or family member own a business? Or maybe you’re thinking about starting one? Or perhaps you’re someone who is aware of how important small businesses are to keeping a stable economy. Whoever you are, this petition needs your support. And all it requires is 30 seconds of your time to sign up and join our mission.
Many feasible business ventures in Britain struggle to grow due to a lack of cash-flow. We believe the Government needs to increase the support available for entrepreneurs, by offering Britain’s brightest new innovators and business people, the backing they deserve.
With the small and medium-sized community growing rapidly (now at five million, two million more than in 2000), the uncertainty of Brexit looming and the continuing growth of the gig economy – now is a perfect time to increase the support entrepreneurs receive.
With your help, we plan to highlight to the Government over the next 12 months just how much people agree that now is the time to support more entrepreneurs in Britain.
We’re proposing that the Government should introduce two new schemes:
1) Entrepreneur ISA
The Entrepreneur ISA, which helps to accelerate plans to set-up a new business by providing a cash lump sum or bonus on top of existing savings on incorporation of a business. This scheme is for would-be entrepreneurs and people who aspire to set-up their own business.
Similar to the Help to Buy: ISA scheme for first-time home buyers, the Entrepreneur ISA is designed to encourage budding business owners to save, on a regular basis, towards the capital they’ll need to launch their own business. In return, on top of the tax-free interest they’ll earn, they will also receive a Government bonus.
2) Small Business Savings Allowance
This scheme will exist to incentivise businesses to save spare or surplus cash either to fund future business growth or to help through tougher trading periods and is targeted firmly at existing businesses. This scheme at its simplest level enables a business to earn up to £4,000 of interest on their business savings each year tax free.
Both schemes would require the Government’s backing and would form part of the wider package of business support provided by HM Treasury.
