Join the Maryland Campaign for Paid Sick Days
Everyone gets sick and everyone deserves the opportunity to recover without risking income or job loss. More than 700,000 Maryland workers cannot earn paid sick days and often go to work sick, send sick children to school or daycare, or in the worst situations, lose their job because they cannot come to work.
In jurisdictions where state and local standards allow workers to earn paid sick days, surveys show workers' lives improved and businesses succeeded.
Having shown national leadership on marriage equality and fair treatment of immigrant children, Maryland has the opportunity to turn its attention to the plight of workers who are unable to earn paid sick days.
I Support Paid Sick Days for Maryland Workers!
New data suggests that more than 700,000 employees in our state cannot earn paid sick days under existing company policies, leaving them vulnerable to wage or job loss when they or a family member becomes sick.
Eighty-two percent of Maryland voters favor protection that guarantees paid sick days for all workers. I recognize that this right is a critical aspect of job quality and I pledge to lend my voice in support of the effort to establish paid sick days for workers across Maryland. The ability to earn paid sick days allows workers to avoid the choice of going to work sick or going without pay — and maybe even losing a job.
Everyone gets sick — and everyone deserves time to get better without risking their health and economic stability.
