Teachers that care about students, especially award-winning teachers, should not be dismissed bcz of WHEN they were assigned. This makes absolutely no sense! This can be a significant step in changing our country's failing education system!
as i sit here about to read mumia abu jamal's fbi files (which begin in 1969, when he was 15)--and think about something i posted yesterday about john paul stevens, who was in his early teens in the 1930s, when the supreme court moved out of the basement of the us capitol into its own building and became the "overseer" of federal prison industries/unicor--of course it is horrible whenever a great teacher is fired, and of course teachers should not have to struggle with the military for the resources they need to teach and their students need to be able to learn.
I did NOT intend to sign a UNION-BUSTING petition! Rhee-publican slimebags are tricking good citizens into supporting their hate campaign against the Teaching PROFESSION. They want to disempower and deskill teachers, and make teaching just a job. HELL NO.
The Rhee-publicans are such a bunch of creeps.
If CHANGE.ORG: my name is now duplicated on this petition; your numbers are flawed. If you ever get around to sorting out duplicates, you should do the right thing and take my name off this petition TWICE.
Because education is the first line of defense!! It is the foundation to success. Great teachers deserve the respect of all taxpayers. The have a significant impact in the life of a child. For some children, it is the difference between success and failure.
Tenure needs to be reformed. Our schools are not working and some union policies are at fault. There needs to be some mechanism to remove irresponsible teachers and another mechanism to support and cultivate new talent. Not all teachers are the same -- this is common sense and it is true for nearly every profession and every endeavor. Let us not remove tenure but instead reform it.
Education is the best investment we can make. Do we want to be surrounded by incompetent illiterates? NO. If we truly want our country to be one of the leaders in the future, we must treat our educators with the respect they deserve and give them the compensation they have earned.
