Poll after poll shows Americans’ trust in Congress is at an all-time low. People have good reasons for it, and after a recent 60 Minutes report about insider trading, they have one more.
The report showed that it is not clearly and expressly illegal for members of Congress to engage in insider trading – using non-public information that comes across their desk to make personal investment decisions.
This practice is just plain wrong.
That’s why Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced the STOCK Act, a bill that would make it illegal for members of Congress to engage in insider trading.
Momentum is building to pass this important piece of legislation. So far Senator Gillibrand’s bill has 24 bi-partisan co-sponsors and a version of it passed out of committee with bipartisan support.
Now, Senator Gillibrand needs you to join the chorus of voices calling for more transparency and accountability in Washington. Americans deserve to know that their representatives are working in the best interests of the country, not for their own financial gain.
Stand With Sen. Gillibrand And Send A Message To Congress: Pass The STOCK Act Now.
Right now, members of Congress can legally take part in insider trading – using information that comes across their desk to make personal investment decisions.
As an American, I'm alarmed by this potential for abuse, and as your constituent, I'm calling on you to close this loophole and help stop insider trading in Congress.
Please support the STOCK Act, introduced by Senators Gillibrand and Brown, to put an end to this unethical practice at once.
