Community Forestries empower people to sustainably steward their shared forest resources, the foundation of many rural livelihoods.
Support the movement to protect these vital resources and stop land grabbing in the Prey Tralach Community Forest in Battambang Province, Cambodia.
Land grabbing and deforestation have been ongoing in this Community Forest for the past year. This has accelerated leading up to the November 15 signing of official documents transferring land rights to the community by the Forestry Administration. After an 8-year process to attain this official recognition for the Prey Tralach Community Forest, this day is a key event in its founding, intended to secure land rights for the community.
But the land grabbing continues. This is a call to end land grabbing so the Prey Tralach community can fulfill their wishes to sustainably steward their newly-established community forest.
A Buddhist Tree Ordination Ceremony to bless this Community Forest and the new Permaculture Education Center for Community Forestry & Sustainable Livelihoods will take place on November 18, 2012. With this event, bolstered by your support through signing this petition, the land grabbing will end and we will begin reforestation efforts with the cooperation of partner NGOs, lead by the community.
These acts of solidarity will send a strong message distinctive message so this issue may be resolved permanently and peacefully.
Please help give a voice to this community by signing our petition as an individual or organization.
Support from international and Cambodian organizations will help us build a coalition for Cambodia's Community Forests.
Peace, Seeds & TREES!
