For Johnson County School System (TN) to change their absence policy.

The current absence policy for the students of the Johnson County School System is completely absurd. The policy as of Thursday, February 8th, 2018 roughly states as follows; "If a student is absent more then five times within a semester, then he/she is expected to make up the time missed. This is for excused and unexcused absences. They can do this by either doing after school or Saturday school. If they do not comply with these rules, the student will be failed/ makeup missed time in summer school where they can receive a grade only as high as a C." A very large portion of the student body, including myself, think this policy needs to be revised.
These are the changes that we think should happen.
- If a student is in the hospital and under life-threatening conditions, they should not be held to these rules.
- If a student is making a B- or higher and turns in makeup work on time; he/she should not be held to these rules, or at least shouldn't be as harsh.
- If you have a doctor's excuse to prove you actually have a sickness and proof you went to the doctor and didn't skip, it should not count towards the total days missed.
These are the basic guidelines to the new policy we propose. We would love to see this implemented or we could negotiate other options as well. Please take these suggestions into consideration.
We thank you for taking the time to read over this and we respect your final decision.
