Hello everyone!

So word has just let out that the 2020 commencement ceremony for Johns Hopkins University will be made virtual. For me, as a graduating senior at JHU, this is devastating news. Obviously this is an extremely difficult and unprecedented situation we are in, and we all wish to take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of all Hopkins students, staff, and their families. However, I know for myself, as well as for many of my fellow graduating peers, commencement is a major milestone in our lives. It is something that comes only once a lifetime and we wish to cherish the day we all graduate from Hopkins together.

I am therefore making this petition to Johns Hopkins University to reschedule/postpone the 2020 commencement ceremony to take place later in the summer/fall, once things become more safe to hold an in-person ceremony. I understand that in this case not all students would be able to attend, but there can be an added virtual option for students who would not be able to attend (and being that the current plan is for everything to be virtual, this is clearly a beneficial alternative).

If you are in support of the university postponing/rescheduling the in-person 2020 commencement ceremony, please sign this petition. We deserve to have the experience of walking at graduation as much as any other college graduate. Thanks for your support, and I hope everyone stays healthy and safe!
