Dear Sirs:

We would like to start a petition to create the " Social Media Food Tampering " bill that would make it a felony for people who tamper with food products in stores and other public domains where food is purchased for public consumption for the purpose of posting grotesque displays to social media. There has been a trend lately of people posting themselves opening cartons of ice cream in grocery stores, licking or eating the contents, picking their nose and placing it in the contents while filming themselves and laughing into the camera.and then placing the carton back on the shelf for the unsuspecting patron to purchase  It's either become the new social media challenge or they are doing this for the shock effect. They have become adept at hiding this from the store cameras. The reason this needs to STOP immediately is that this is a public health safety issue. Many diseases can be transmitted by handling food. Hepatitis A being a big one. There is a list of others on the CDC website. You can view two of the videos on my social media page at http://facebook.com/stewartduree We implore you to research this claim and work to enact a bill that would deter these people from this kind of criminal behavior. A misdemeanor should not apply where the health of the public is a concern. Thank you. Respectfully yours, DuRee Stewart, Registered Respiratory Therapist
