Petition update

A new wave of indignation against Wicked Campers has begun. Please join.

Apr 26, 2015 — Since publishing the last update on this petition, I have continued to work toward attaining what was asked for of Wicked Campers in the first place - to eliminate degrading and misogynistic slogans and images from their vans.

Obviously, Wicked Campers themselves have made it abundantly clear that they will not be upholding their promise as evidenced by my 'Literally Wicked' post that I keep updating with images as they're sent to me.

Check the latest here:

A few weeks ago, an image was sent to me from NZ with the slogan:
'I've often wanted to drown my sorrows but I can't get my wife to go swimming.'

This image has created a new firestorm on social media, as we are in the grips of horrible statistics - especially in Australia - of violence against women. 31 women murdered (or suspected) by males so far in 2015. More than the UK, even though we are a THIRD of their population in size.

Here is the #MVAW tally thus far in Australia:
https://realforwomen.wordpress.com/murdered-women-2015/

Slogans like this perpetuate a notion that violence against women through humour is acceptable. NONE of this is acceptable.
If the slogan had replaced the word 'wife' with 'kid' - there would be outrage.
On the Wicked Campers website, they have a cartoon cross-section of a van with arrows pointing to their features. One arrow pointing under the van reads:
'Hide victims and drugs in these large storage boxes.' UNACCEPTABLE.
The image also has a female blow-up doll in the front seat.
I have reported this advertisment to the Advertising Standards Bureau.

Fortunately there has been a WIN!
Coralie Alison of Collective Shout sent Lonely Planet a message, questioning why they have Wicked Campers listed on their site. I backed her up with the 'Literally Wicked' post and Lonely Planet have agreed to remove Wicked Campers from their website as well as the Australian print version of Lonely Planet due out for release in November.

Read below about that win:

This last win only shows how easy it is to simply write in and question the practices of any business. Target backpacker sites and camping / camper van sites. Some have agreed that they will ban Wicked Camper vans to their family-friendly sites. People hiring them should be well informed of this. Can you write a short email today?

Wicked Campers have no integrity. They had the opportunity but have not only ignored it and proceeded with business as usual, they have demonstrated contempt by continuing to promote misogynistic perspectives as well as perpetuate notions of hyper-sexuality, paedophelia, homophobia and violence in our PUBLIC SPACE.

John Webb has also recently released a contemptuous press release that merely mocks everyone. He is not a nice person.
