Straws are SO unnecessary! They’re just a convenience people can live without!

I've seen so many documentaries about plastics and it's affects on our planet, not just our planet: us humans, the animals (especially fish, which some of us eat), and our lakes. Idk where I've gone we're only banning them from the restaurants in Toronto but, it'll still make a great effect on our city. All the plastic utilities like straws that end up in the lake float through the st.laurence river out to the ocean (Atlantic?), the plastic breaks up into small toxic micro-plastics that intoxicate the fish. I like swimming at the island but I don't think anyone will if there's bits of plastics and "straws" floating around in what could be toxic water.... BAN PLASTIC STRAWS BY SIGNING THIS PETITION, THERE ARE SUCH THINGS AS METAL STRAWS : reusable!

Plastics are devastating to marine life, and to all life. I support a ban in restaurants, and in general, with the exception that an environmentally-friendly, non-plastic version of straws (if medically sound) be available to people whose disabilities and/or compromised immune systems require them to use straws for sustenance.

The “need” vs the “use” of straws does not equate. Customers that require a straw can simply ask for one or can provide their own. Removing the placement of straws in every glass would eliminate the costs difference between reusable or compostable straws. Any items used for a single moment should not be created out of a material that lasts forever. Think about the material not just the costs. Our livelihood depends on these soloutions.
