Covid-19 has impacted everyone’s life in one way or another, the way of life we have now has changed since this time last year, with lockdowns, masks and all the other restrictions that have been put in place over the past 9 months. However, we were always told to “protect our NHS”, we even clapped for them on Thursday evenings to praise their efforts in trying to battle Covid-19.  Students, who are the future of our NHS, are being undermined by the government.

HNC students, particularly within health and social care courses, need to complete a specific number of hours which can be the equivalent to first year of Nursing at university. Placement is important at this higher level as it allows students to gain clinical and practical experience they would not get otherwise. The Placement unit also ties in with the Graded Unit, which has been waved in other courses but not within the Health and Social Care Sectors.

The government have given indemnity insurance to all level one university students who need to go out on placement. But not us! Indemnity insurance covers students while the risks of Covid-19 are still around.

Help us change this and get out on placement! We are also the future of the NHS!
