Stop the renaming of the NYU Polytechnic SOE

This petition had 1,439 supporters

During the past 161 academic years as an established university, the New York University Polytechnic School of Engineering has undergone five significant changes to it's reputable name. We, the student body and faculty, protest the changing of the university's name for any reason.

The Polytechnic School of Engineering is referred to by students, alumni, faculty and employers alike as "Poly" and has gained a reputation under this name. The name of our university and its reputation are a source of great pride, to students and faculty alike. Changing this name to include that of a benefactor, would hinder both personal pride and reputation. No donation, no matter how significant, should allow for 161 years of heritage and educational excellence to be erased overnight.

The students of Poly have one goal in this petition: to maintain the School's name with no omissions or additions.
