I’m signing because it’s my duty as a Bountiful high alumni. I graduated in 2010 and now live in Canada and work in social work. I support Indigenous individuals who suffer from mental illness, addiction, trauma, and homelessness because of the inter generational trauma they experience due to genocide and violence. They suffer injustice every day, still, and systemic racism is alive and well. Using a culture and race as a mascot is actively perpetuating racism and oppression. In British Columbia, we honour the unceded territory we work, live, and play on every day. Bountiful High has the opportunity to lead in moving towards reconciliation and actively dismantling racism. We can do so much better.

"Braves" is dehumanizing to my beloved native friends

It is damaging and hurtful for Indigenous people to be reduced to a mascot, where the true nature of their culture, experiences, and lives are not taught and not honored. Please change and fix this situation.

A school that is over 90% white cannot respectfully assume the identity of Narive Americans for school spirit. Utahans kicked Natives off their land, forced them to assimilate, and did everything possible to beat these peoples into submission. There is no scenario in which a Native American Warrior as a mascot is respectful for the city of Bountiful.

Time to do away with names like Redskins Braves Tomahawks , etc. for sports schools and other organizations. It does not honor the true nature of our country’s Native American citizens

It is time for proper respect be shown to Native Americans. And cultural appropriation is not cool.

I am a class of '66 graduate. I always liked the Brave mascot. But then I didn't really think too far then. Over time I have come to believe that if it is offensive to the indigenous I can understand. It would be a small sacrifice to make a step toward more brotherhood and support of our indigenous family.
