Allanah Renner started this petition to President, Lindenwood University John R. Porter

Before spring break, students left campus looking for a break and some much needed relaxation. Half way through our week off, we were warned that the ongoing COVID-19 crisis was growing and were warned to stay off campus and at home for the time being. This soon grew to all classes being converted to online courses for the remainder of the semester. Graduation was still planned to happen and we seniors held on to that hope.

On March 26, 2020, students of Lindenwood University received a message stating that all spring commencement ceremonies would be cancelled and would not be rescheduled. This is obviously devastating to all seniors that planned on walking this upcoming May.

Graduating is a huge milestone for students. We have worked hard for years to be able to walk across stage and receive our degrees, and now that privilege is being taken away completely. We don't want to walk in December with strange faces that we don't know. We want to walk with those that worked hard with us, encouraged us, and struggled with us. We want the chance to hug friends goodbye and experience what is the closing of what has been the biggest chapters of our lives thus far with those that have become family over the years.

We seniors are asking Lindenwood president, John R. Porter, to reschedule graduation rather than cancelling. We don't care if graduation is pushed back until July or August, but we want a day to celebrate with our own classmates. If you will, please sign your name below to show your support. We deserve to be recognized for all the hard work that has been done.

Thank you and stay safe,

Spring 2020 Lindenwood Seniors
