Private Prison Problems

The private prison system has been a part of American culture since the 80's. The main purpose of a private prison is to let the government contract out prisons to private corporations so they can run them. This usually happens because the government is tough on funds and unable to run their own prisions. The problem with private prisons come up when the corperations behind them put their bottom line ahead of the rights of the prisoner. To make more money, the prisons lobby the government to have thougher laws and enforcement so they can take in more inmates. They also make their inmates suffer through terrible conditions in order to turn a profit.
To make the prison system better for everyone we need to get rid of the private corporations that run our prisons. Or else we risk letting companies, not laws, be the decision make on wether you are convicted or not. If we are able to get rid of private prisons then we will make prisons safer as well as our country.
This petition will be sent to John R Baldwin, the Director of the Illinois Department of Corrections. The way to fix a big problem is by fixing it a step at a time. Hopefully if Illinois changes the laws and regulations on Private Prisons, other states will follow suit. Join us in the global movement to fix this problem now.
