We are hoping to recognize February 1st as Greensboro 4 Day and honor Jibreel Khazan, a member of the Greensboro 4 and New Bedford resident. We are attempting to have this honor established along with the start of Black History Month.

Jibreel Khazan along with three other African American students from North Carolina A&T State University, staged a sit-in at Woolworth in Greensboro. This popular retail store was known for refusing to serve African Americans at its lunch counter.

The protests led to the Woolworth Department Store chain ending its policy of racial segregation in its stores in the southern United States. The Greensboro Sit-Ins were the first prominent sit-ins of the civil rights movement.

I am Black or African American, and I have experienced bullying because of my skin color and my skin tone. If someone were to change the world by banning this unfairness of judgement based on skin color, I would feel so grateful because my African American people didn't deserve to be treated the way they were treated before. The cruelty, disrespect and unkindness must end. Let’s change this world for ourselves and the future.
