Investigate the gross mismanagement at the New Orleans Post Office

For several years, the residents of New Orleans have been subjected to an inordinate amount of damaged, undelivered and missing letters, periodicals and packages. Entire mail routes have gone days, and sometimes weeks, without delivery service. When residents have exercised their right to lodge complaints regarding these practices, they have experienced all manner of retaliation, including mail stoppages. In an attempt to avoid these problems some residents have been forced to rent post office and third party mail boxes, but even these efforts have not always been successful.

The growth in e-commerce activity has elevated the economic importance of reliable mail delivery to a level unrivaled since the days of the Pony Express. Consequently, our increased reliance on the U.S. Postal Service makes the aforementioned problems even more intolerable. Therefore, the signatories on this petition are requesting that the U.S. Senate Committee for Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which has jurisdiction over the U.S. Postal Service, call for an investigation of the New Orleans Post Office and take all necessary steps to resolve these problems, up to and including the removal of the current officer-in-charge, Matthew J. Connelly.
