Declare a (health) medical state of emergency due to heroin/opium usage in Ohio
This petition had 2,034 supporters
We call on OHIO GOVERNOR KASICH to declare a medical state of emergency to aid people trying to get into detox and substance abuse treatment programs for heroin and opium use. Why?
Because a declaration of a "state of emergency" allows state government to maximize the use of its resources to support local authorities in addressing this situation.
Because Dayton, Ohio leads the nation in opioid overdose deaths and because one out of nine of the Americans who died of an opioid overdose in 2015 were in Ohio when they died, we are asking for your help.
Because eighty-five percent of Ohioans who ask for help and try to get into treatment for an opium addiction will never get off of the center's waiting list.
Because too often those who get into treatment are only given short-term options, which often lead to failure.
- Ohio needs to increase available treatment options fourfold.
- People who are uninsured, underinsured, included Medicaid need funding for long-term treatment including medication-assisted treatment.
- Ohio must increase the number of sober-living homes.
Because Ohio law enforcement and other emergency service providers need to have access to and funding for Naloxone a.k.a. Narcan and have better training about working with people with a substance abuse disorder.
Because this petition is supported by these Greater Cincinnati Heroin Awareness groups:
Heroin Recovery 4 U, Heroin Control Cincinnati, Cincinnati Against Heroin (and other drugs), Families Against Heroin in Clermont County, Greater Cincinnati Heroin Awareness, Warriors Project, Breaking Barriers – Hope is Alive, H20-Heroin To Overcome, Rockstar Recovery, Serenity Street, FOA Families of Addicts, Ohio Parents Against Heroin, Heroin News /Holy Addiction, Choose Freedom, Warrior's Project, Heroin Dealers Are Serial Killers, Serenity Street, Celebrating Restoration, Clermont County Against Heroin, Goshen War On Drugs, Celebrate Recovery, River Rats, Stomp Addiction Logansport Run, Fairborn Against Heroin, Heroin Doesn't Care.
John Kasich, Governor of Ohio we ask you to act now and provide leadership to the peoples of Ohio and The United States and set the example in doing everything possible to bring this problem under control.
