The fine for passing stopped school buses in BC is too lenient at only $368 for a first offence. We would like to see the minimum penalty for a first offence of passing a stopped school bus while children are loading or unloading to be set higher at $1,000 with a second offence resulting in a 3 day driving suspension. Drivers aren't getting the message and it's time to add some teeth to the fine and protect BC kids.

Fines in the rest of Canada:

Alberta: $402 fine and six demerit points
Saskatchewan: $360 fine
Manitoba: $673 fine
Ontario: First offence: $400 to $2,000 and six demerit points..
Each following offence: $1,000 to $4,000, six demerit points and possible jail time (up to six months)
PEI: 12 demerit points and driver's licence suspension for three months, plus a $5,000 fine.
Quebec: $200 to $300 fine and 9 demerit points
New Brunswick: $1,006.50 fine and 4 demerit points
Nova Scotia: First offence, $697 fine going up to $2,422.50 for subsequent offences
Newfoundland: $500 fine, up to $1200 maximum
NWT:$115
Yukon: $200
