People with disabilities on PWD support have no common ground when it comes to common law relationships and marriage. Often they have so many drawbacks and clawbacks of money that they are forced to choose between their disability benefits or their relationship and marriage with another individual. This not only affects the individual and partner financially, it also affects their own mental health as well. I believe, an many others believe that a person with a disability status should have a right to be with someone in marraige and or common law with no clawbacks or drawbacks..

Here are some options to consider to better the well being of people with disabilities and offer support:

I believe there should be no claw backs when on disability with a common law or partner in marraige and continue to receive benefits in the same matter that they would as an individual which is the $1183.47 a month that the individual receives, this would be one option.

Another option is to greater increase the amount of allowed annual income and asset amount when the individual enters a common law relationship so that it is more affordable.  They should be able to afford living so that the individual doesn't have to be supported overall in the marraige or common law relationship. If people on disabilities can work on support as well as being married and or common law, the annual earning amount and asset amount should be higher overall. I believe that the income amount allowed to earn per year should be the same or increased when in such relationship.

These are my options I have presented and hope some change can be made to better the lives and loved ones of people with disabilities in B.C

I am a person with disability and am torn emotionally when I found out I had to basically choose between marraige and or rely on someone else to support me financially in a common law relationship even though I could work at a job independently while on PWD. It's either that I stay as an individual and if I naturally fall in love with someone I  suffer in my relationship because clawbacks for PWD when common law or married.

I'm sure hundreds and thousands of people on disability are going through the same thing as I was and I'm hoping that this petition will help bring the change that people with disabilities need to see to have a normal and bright future with someone without having to worry so much financially.

Please sign if you agree with my petition so we can make a positive change in B.C!
