The school’s system today is the format as it was 150 year’s ago. 150 year’s ago this format worked great in training students to work in an industrial work environment. However this format has not changed with the times. This format is still being used today, however we no longer live and work the same work environment.

I feel today’s school system is too industrialized. It needs an upgrade and a focus on today’s world and the future. Although our education system has been training us to listen to and follow directions, which was a great strategy when preparing students to become future factory workers; The jobs of the future with tomorrow technology, needs to train students to learn how to think creatively, how to create new things, and make today’s world more productive.

Students need more options in which electives they want to take. They need to ability to find what excites them and to be able run with it. They need more creative outlets. They need more say in what they learn and how they learn it, with a more hands on approach. With today’s technology, there should be less limits on what and how students learn the suits their individual learning styles. Not a box that every student is forced into and forced to learn the same things in the same style as everyone else.

We need to use the technology available to us to ensure each student is getting the best education in the best style, individualized for each student in order to ensure a successful future for all students.

The school system needs an overhaul, an all new structure to the school system. A system that prepares students for today’s world and the world of the future. The times have changed in the past 150 years, and our education needs to start changing with it.
