im an IU grad and I've brought my family and small kids to visit campus and kirkwood ave. and felt so uncomfortable with the kids being down there. it shouldn't be that way! They shouldn't be on kirkwood and that close to campus. I live in Indpls and its not even that bad downtown indy around the popular shopping/restaurant areas.

We need to help the homeless community by creating shelter programs, then and only then will we have a right to control this park. Not the other way around .They have to have a place to be and that's the first step. Wake up please and see it the way it truly is. What if this was one of your family members or a friend of yours. Theses are human beings, the same as you and me. Let's find a solution, not cause more suffering...

The city must provide some help to shelters, and the shelters need to push these people get jobs, to help them get independent.

Poverty, mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction, and crime are complex and not easily eradicated social problems. One common need, however, is financial support for institutions that fight these problems. In Bloomington, Indiana University and the businesses on Kirkwood are primary economic drivers. Without their success, there would be no funds to help those in need. Therefore, we must first and foremost ensure that our students are safe and secure and that our downtown businesses can thrive. As the signatures and stories on this petition indicate, neither is the case right now. Before we can address the wider problems raised at the beginning of this post, we must take steps to ensure the safety and security and peace of mind of our students and downtown visitors. Once this has happened, we can continue dialogue about ways to help those in need.

I feel scared walking past this park at night, and with as much tuition as I am paying (out of state) I deserve to feel safe
